This striking poster was produced by Designmuseum Danmark and features a dramatic photographic view of Hans J. Wegner’s early Tripartite Shell Chair, originally designed in 1949.
This early experimental chair is one of Wegner’s most unusual creations — a sculptural, three-part molded plywood concept that predated his later and more famous CH07 “Shell Chair”. Only a very small number of prototypes were made, and the model is now preserved in museum collections.
Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is considered one of the greatest furniture designers of the 20th century and a central figure of Danish Modern. Known as “The Master of the Chair”, Wegner designed more than 500 chairs, many of which have become timeless icons of Scandinavian design. His work is admired for its balance of organic curves, elegant simplicity, and extraordinary craftsmanship. Today, Wegner’s designs are exhibited in leading museums and celebrated by collectors around the world.
This poster highlights the distinctive three-panel plywood seat and the flowing frame of the Tripartite Shell Chair, photographed in crisp high contrast. It is a perfect statement piece for lovers of Scandinavian interiors, mid-century furniture, modern design, and Danish architectural history.
