A very stylish poster featuring a sketch of a 1930s gas station by Arne Jacobsen.
This poster was made to promote an exhibition called "Absolute Modern". The exhibition was set up in Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
The gas station is called "Skovshoved gas station" and is a functionalism-style gas station built in 1936. Arne Jacobsen has used elements from the famous chair Myren, where the shape of the back is seen in the gas station's half roof.
Arne Jacobsen (1902-197) was a Danish architect and designer who helped introduce modernism in Denmark. He has an international reputation and is one of Denmark's most famous designers.
Louisiana (Danish Museum of Modern Art) is located in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum was opened its doors in 1958 and with its approximately 600,000 annual visitors, is one of Denmark's most visited museums and among the ten most visited tourist attractions. Louisiana is a collection of contemporary art, but also an interaction between art, architecture and landscape.
Louisiana got his name from court master Alexander Brun, who built a villa on the site in 1855. The villa's name is probably inspired by the three women he married - all three were named Louise. The founder of Louisiana chose to keep the name from the country house he subsequently transformed into a museum. The villa is now a part of this magnificent museum.
