Stylish Louisiana exhibition poster with design by Alexander Calder!
Alexander Calder (1898-1976) was an innovative American sculptor known for his groundbreaking work in kinetic art, creating the first mobile sculptures. His dynamic, abstract works often featured suspended shapes that moved with air currents, creating a sense of fluidity and motion.
Calder also crafted static sculptures, known as "stabiles," as well as wire sculptures, toys, and jewelry. His vibrant, playful art challenged traditional boundaries, making significant contributions to modern art. Calder's influence extends globally, with his works displayed in major museums and public spaces worldwide.
Louisiana (Danish Museum of Modern Art) is located in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum was opened its doors in 1958 and with its approximately 600,000 annual visitors, is one of Denmark's most visited museums and among the ten most visited tourist attractions. Louisiana is a collection of contemporary art, but also an interaction between art, architecture and landscape.
Louisiana got his name from court master Alexander Brun, who built a villa on the site in 1855. The villa's name is probably inspired by the three women he married - all three were named Louise. The founder of Louisiana chose to keep the name from the country house he subsequently transformed into a museum. The villa is now a part of the museum.
