A beautiful advertisement made by Bjørn Wiinblad for The Danish Royal Ballet.
The poster advertises The Royal Danish Ballet on summer tour in USA back in 1957. A graceful ballet dancer is performing in an fairy tale landscape which captures the setting in a magical way. It is quite a stunning poster when observed in real life.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic minimalist line.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in many other museums all over the world.
Please note: the motif for this poster was first used in 1957 as dated on the poster. However, the motif for this poster reused in 1988 and this is why Wiinblad dated the poster both "57" and "88" below his signature. Maybe this poster was used for commercial purposes.
