A great Spanish travel poster featuring art from various Spanish artist.

The poster was made in the mid 1980s where Spain wanted to brand itself as a tourist destination with "everything under the sun". The logo by Joan Miro in the lower left corner was made for the new tourist strategy.

Sol de Miró logo of the is the first abstract logo used by a nation to brand itself. Sol de Miró was completed just months before Miro died and at the time he was to ill to paint. The logo is based on elements from his older arts but approved by Miro while he was still alive. The Spanish tourist board was eager to market Spain as country with loads of sun and plenty of things to do and see. This was how the slogan was made. Rumors has it that Dali also was asked to participate but it did not work out.

Joan Miro (1893-1983) was a Catalan painter whose surrealist works are some of the most original of the 20th century. He is mainly known for playfully distorted animal forms, twisted organic shapes and odd geometric constructions in public places - for example his ceramic walls the UNESCO building in Paris and the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen. Miro also created several monumental sculptures which is erected among other places in Barcelona and Chicago.
