A beautiful and inspiring advertisement poster for the Martha Graham Dance Company encouraging people to follow them on tour in Scandinavia in the mid-1980s.
Martha Graham (1894-1991) was an American modern dancer and choreographer, whose influence on dance is often compared to the influence that Picasso had on modern art and Stravinsky's influence on music! During her career as a dancer and choreographer, which stretched for more than seventy years, Graham was the first dancer ever to perform in the White House. She also traveled abroad as a cultural ambassador and received the highest civil order in the United States: 'Presidential Medal of Freedom'.
Such artwork also suits the artist of the artwork - Kurt Trampedach (1943-2013). The Danish painter and sculptor was very interested in portraits (often self-portraits) and had quite dark line which he adopted from his idol Rembrandt van Rijn. Painting was a way for him to work with his own psyche, with frequent bouts of depression and mania which is perhaps why his motifs looks like they do. His main colors where red, yellow and black which really draws a lot of mystique into his artwork as clearly seen on this poster.
