1984 Tivoli Gardens by Poul Janus Ipsen - Original Vintage poster

Every year Tivoli Gardens (or simply Tivoli) lets a Danish artist design the poster art for the coming season. The art for the poster of 1984 was created by Poul Janus Ipsen (1936) who also is well known for his advertisement designs and paintings.

Tivoli Gardens is one of the world most famous amusement parks. The park is the second oldest amusement park in the world and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark and is by far the most visited spot in Scandinavia.

The image displays "Tivoli-Garden" (The Tivoli Guards) - and orchestra founded in 1844 - who are parading and entertaining in the old gardens. Despite the name, the guards are only carrying instruments as "weapons" although they look a lot like the Danish Royal Life Guards.
