A very very French exhibition poster made by the infamous Villemot!
The poster encourage people to visit an exhibition on Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque who was a French general during the Second World War. Leclerc is famous for aiding the Parisians when they revolted against the occupying Germans the late hours of WWII. The poster displays many French and Parisian symbols and also the Cross of Lorraine - the coat of arms for the 2nd Armored Division, led by Leclerc. The cross was first worn by Joan of Arc.
The poster was created by the legendary French graphic artist Bernard Villemot (1911-1989). Villemot is called the best French poster artist for more than three decades and he is world famous for his iconic advertising images for Orangina, Bally Shoe, Perrier, and Air France. In 1953 Villemot began designing logos and posters for the new soft drink Orangina and he kept on designing almost until his final breath. This poster is among is last works.
