This artistic and powerful poster was made for an dancing performance for the American Dance Theater led by Alvin Ailey (1931-1989).
Ailey is credited with popularizing modern dance and revolutionizing African-American participation in 20th-century concert dance. His company gained the nickname "Cultural Ambassador to the World" because of its extensive international touring.
Ailey was an American dancer and choreographer and is recognized to be one of the most prominent figure in "black dance" for 30 years. By Ailey's death in 1989 his company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, was recognized throughout the world and over the years the show has drawn full houses in the Tivoli Gardens of Copenhagen.
President Barack Obama selected Ailey to be a posthumous recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom - the highest civilian award of the United States.
The venue for the dance show advertised on this poster is the infamous Tivoli Gardens of Copenhagen, Denmark.
