This great and atmospheric poster displays no less than king of the fairies - Oberon!

The Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad made this poster for a theater production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1982 and Wiinblad designed not only the stage decor but also the costumes.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (German: Ein Sommernaghtstraum) is a comedy play by Shakespeare. Oberon and his wife "Titania" (who happens to be the queen of the fairies) are having a dispute. They are fighting over a changeling child whom Oberon wants to raise as his henchman. Titania wants to keep the child because he is the child of Titania's mortal follower who died, and she wants to raise the child for her follower. Because Oberon and Titania are powerful fairies, their arguments affect the weather!

The rest of the story is up for you to read or watch..

The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic minimalist line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.

The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.

Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in many other museums all over the world.
