In the keel water of the 1970s energy crises the Danish authorities dispatched several energy saving posters like this one.
This poster encourage people to replace the traditional light bulb with an energy efficient light bulb.
This poster elegantly curves the Danish word "Spar" (save) into a bright and beautiful and yet old fashioned incandescent bulb. In the lower left corner of the poster is the logo of the campaign which is simply called "Save energy" with the slogan "-it is necessary".
The Danish text on the poster has a double meaning: “Pæren” means the pear, but in context, it’s also short for “lyspære”, which is a light bulb. But “Pæren” is slang for the head or brain. So when someone says “Brug pæren!”, it literally means “Use the light bulb”, but figuratively it means “Use your brain!” or “Think!”.
