Every year Tivoli Gardens (or simply Tivoli) lets a Danish artist design the poster art for the coming season.
The artwork for the poster of 1978 was created by Kamma Svensson (1908 - 1988). You can easily see the fashion of the 70s Denmark, the hippie inspiration and colorful look and that she wants to express that the Tivoli Park is a place for everyone.
After finishing high school she became a pupil of the painter Harald Slott-Møller and after studying in Paris for a while, she went to the Akademie in der Hardenberg Strasse in Berlin 1930-33. Later in 1940 she participated in a number of articles in the debate on the role of women in the labor market and in the home. Gradually the drawings were the main means of expression for her and over the years she delivered many vignettes and drawings to newspapers.
Just after World War II, she traveled as a journalist for the Danish Red Cross in Germany and saw, the ruined cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Dresden. These experiences and growing up in the endangered Southern Denmark (close to the German border) was probably the reason for the pessimism and fear of a third world war, as Kamma Svensson lived with. In addition, she was also very affected by the news of the wars in Korea and Vietnam. However she never let her anxiety inhibit her artistic fancy but cultivated rather the beauty of its images.
The Tivoli poster of 1978 is among her greatest works. The park is one of the world most famous amusement parks. The park is the second oldest amusement park in the world and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark and is by far the most visited spot in Scandinavia.
