Authentic vintage Danish political poster from the late 1970s, featuring the world-famous Smiling Sun logo and the slogan “Atomkraft? Nej tak” (“Nuclear power? No thanks”).

This poster was produced by OOA (Organisationen til Oplysning om Atomkraft= and belongs to one of the most influential grassroots movements in modern European political design.

The smiling sun logo is one of the most widely used protest symbols in history. Originally created in Denmark, it was quickly adopted by anti-nuclear movements across Europe, the United States, Japan, and Australia, often translated into local languages but retaining the same iconic design.

The symbol became a universal visual shorthand for peaceful resistance to nuclear power and remains in use today.

The Smiling Sun was designed in 1975 by Danish activist and designer Anne Lund.
Her intention was to create a non-aggressive, human, and optimistic symbol, in contrast to the confrontational imagery often associated with protest movements. The design’s clarity and warmth are widely credited as key reasons for its international success.
