A beautiful artwork by Edvard Munch advertising an exhibition in Louisiana Museum, Denmark
Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a Norwegian painter greatly influenced German Expressionism. He is immortalized by the world famous painting called "The Scream".
Munch made the artwork on the poster in 1899 and he named it "The Girls on the Bridge". The scene is located at Aasgaardstrand near Oslo, Norway.
Louisiana (Danish Museum of Modern Art) is located in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum was opened its doors in 1958 and with its approximately 600,000 annual visitors, is one of Denmark's most visited museums and among the ten most visited tourist attractions. Louisiana is a collection of contemporary art, but also an interaction between art, architecture and landscape.
Louisiana got his name from court master Alexander Brun, who built a villa on the site in 1855. The villa's name is probably inspired by the three women he married - all three were named Louise. The founder of Louisiana chose to keep the name from the country house he subsequently transformed into a museum. The villa is now a part of the museum.
