1972 Anti-European Union Campaign Poster - Original Vintage Poster

Interesting campaign poster for a No vote in Denmark’s referendum on joining the European Economic Community (EF/EC) in 1973.

The slogan “For demokratiets skyld” means “For the sake of democracy” and expresses the movement’s opposition to European integration and concern for Danish democracy and national sovereignty. 

The poster was commissioned by the former Danish political poster for Folkebevægelsen mod EF (People’s Movement against the European Community), promoting a “NEJ” (NO) vote. 

The Danish landscape, people, boat and imposing institutional building contrast local Danish identity and self-government with the distant European system. A striking example of Danish anti-EC political poster art.

This richly detailed and colorful poster was designed by the Danish artist and writer Ib Spang Olsen (1921-2012). Olsen's works often takes the beholder into a magical room and illustrates the mysteries and adventures one can experience inside his universe.
