A beautiful little poster made by the legendary Bjørn Wiinblad.
The poster depicts a scene from the fairy tale Blockhead Hans fairy written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1841.
The scene were the emperor's daughter are receives two gifts - a nightingale and a rose. The gifts are given by a poor prince wants to marry the princess. The princess rejects the humble gifts because they're real and natural, rather than artificial. The prince then disguises himself and applies for the position of swineherd at the palace. Once on the job, he creates a musical pot which the princess must have for (almost) any price. The rest of the story is for yourself to read..
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic minimalist line. This artwork is differently true to his special line - please pay close attention to all the little details in the background. Wiinblad is one of my personal favorites as he liked to party, travel and make art. He always looked cheerful and has a spark in his eyes as well as he insists on making happy and colorful motifs.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in many other museums all over the world.
Notice: This mini poster feels and looks like a postcard but the backside is blank unlike traditional postcards.
