Space Race history in its making!

This poster displays Yuri Gagarin in his space suit in front of a launching pad. Gagarin was first human to journey into outer space when he circled the Earth for 1 hour and 48 minutes aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft. As seen on the poster, the first manned space flight was made on 12 April 1961 and is celebrated as "Cosmonautics Day". This poster celebrates the day which is still celebrated in modern Russia today.

This is one of many poster created by the Soviet Union to make its people feel proud of their nation. The text on the poster says "Cosmonaut Soviet Space Day".

Propaganda posters like this one where sent out to every corner of the Soviet empire to remind the population of the heroic deeds, scientific process and important political events.
