Original exhibition poster from Louisiana Museum of Modern Art with art by Giorgio de Chirico.
Giorgio de Chirico (1888–1978) was an influential Italian painter, best known as the founder of the metaphysical art movement. His work is characterized by eerie, dreamlike scenes with classical architecture, deserted cityscapes, and enigmatic figures. De Chirico’s art, particularly his use of unsettling perspectives and mysterious symbolism, had a significant impact on the Surrealists and later modern artists. His early metaphysical paintings evoke a sense of melancholy and philosophical contemplation, blending reality and imagination in ways that challenged conventional artistic norms.
The hallmark of Henry Heerup's painting and graphics, predominantly lino cuts are recurring characters such as crosses, wheels and heart, but above all, the woman, the child and the Goblin, His figures and often also the colors had (according to himself) an almost solid symbolic value.
Louisiana (Danish Museum of Modern Art) is located in Humlebæk north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum was opened its doors in 1958 and with its approximately 600,000 annual visitors, is one of Denmark's most visited museums and among the ten most visited tourist attractions. Louisiana is a collection of contemporary art, but also an interaction between art, architecture and landscape.
Louisiana got his name from court master Alexander Brun, who built a villa on the site in 1855. The villa's name is probably inspired by the three women he married - all three were named Louise. The founder of Louisiana chose to keep the name from the country house he subsequently transformed into a museum. The villa is now a part of the museum.
