From the legendary year of 1968 this poster emerge!
This poster was made to encourage people to visit the first international exhibition of erotic art in Sweden.
This very poster was on display in the public in southern Sweden (around the city of Lund) in the months before for the exhibition opened. The poster itself created a lot of debate and many Swedish traditionalist and the media thought the exhibition would be the end of the world. Well, the exhibition was certainly was not the end but rather the beginning of a new age where nudes, erotica and so on became more and more visible in the public space.
The artwork for the poster was made by the Japanese printmaker Sugimura Jihei (1681-1703). Sugimura illustrated at least 70 books, and created a number of large size prints along with many of the more standard sizes and formats. Judging from his extant works, it appears that Sugimura specialized in "shunga", or erotic prints. Shunga prints make up two-thirds of his work.
