This original poster comes from the heart of Denmark’s peace movement during the turbulent late 1960s. Printed in 1968, at the peak of global protests against nuclear weapons, it boldly declares “NEJ TIL ATOMVÅBEN” — “NO TO NUCLEAR WEAPONS.”
The design features a powerful hand-drawn peace symbol in vibrant red/orange, a striking Scandinavian reinterpretation of the international nuclear disarmament sign created only a decade earlier. Posters like this were printed cheaply, distributed and plastered across universities, community boards, and demonstration routes in Denmark.
1968 was a defining year for the global peace movement: student uprisings, anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, and widespread fear of nuclear escalation swept across Europe. Denmark’s own peace organizations were highly active, pushing for nuclear-free policies, de-militarization, and Nordic solidarity. This poster embodies that energy — simple, raw, and unmistakably urgent.
Printed by Samtryk and marked with its original 1968 production code, this artwork is a piece of authentic Cold War political history. Its minimalist Scandinavian design aesthetic makes it equally appealing as a collectible political artifact or as bold mid-century wall art.
