One of Wiiblad's greatest posters - if you ask me. This great piece of art in an advertisement for The National Swedish Touring Theater (Svenska Riksteatern). The theater consists of several performing unions and associations - including the Cramér Ballet (Cramérbaletten). The poster advertises a play made by the Cramér Ballet.
The poster for the "Nordic Dancing Games" is one of several, which Wiinblad designed for the Swedish Cramér Ballet in the 1960s and 1970s. Here is a stylized dancing female figure with the Wiinblad characteristic almond-shaped eyes. Her body is in motion and in a brilliant way grows branches and leaves out of her hands while the birds feel safe in her vicinity. The bright yellow sun disc stands with its graphic purity as a counterweight to the wild dash in the female figure.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
