1963 Copenhagen Royal Guard by Antoni - Original Vintage Poster

In order to defuse the Royal Guard (a soldier who protects the Danish monarchy) the poster artist made a birds nest full of chicks on his traditional bearskin cap.

This magnificent poster is an advertisement poster commissioned by "Wonderful Copenhagen" (the tourist board in Copenhagen) in order to promote Copenhagen as a tourist destination. One of the main sites in the city is the statue of The Little Mermaid which is located by the waterfront and visited by quite a few tourists each day.

The poster artist, Ib Antoni (1929-1973), is a quite famous artist and received many prizes during his 20 year career. He created more than 300 posters in his career and among them is several Tivoli Garden, Visit Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen posters. 

Antoni's favorite subjects was birds and smiling characters and his special line is always happy and romantic which makes this poster true to his cheerful style.

This is indeed a great vintage poster with good vibrations all included in a very creative artwork by one of Denmark's most beloved artists.
