This is possibly the most famous duck family in Denmark!
The motif actually descents from a real event that took place in the Frederiksberg district, Copenhagen, on a spring day in 1959 during rush hour!
The poster was commissioned by "Wonderful Copenhagen" - the official tourist board of Copenhagen and displays a street scene from the city where all traffic is stopped by a police officer as a little duck family is crossing the street. Even the tram, the postman and a member of the Royal Life Guard is stopped which emphasizes the importance of the duck family's safety.
I believe the motif was created to lead the viewers though onto a city of tolerance and tranquility - two important key factors which I believe is still very much present in contemporary Copenhagen.
The poster artist, Viggo Vagnby (1896-1966), was originally trained as a painter, but during the interwar period he founded his own advertising office in Copenhagen. Vagnby achieved relatively instant success with his tourist advertisements (travel posters) and quickly became popular with his cheerful and poetic images. Today Vagnby is regarded as a poster superstar in Denmark and is widely known among serious vintage poster collectors around the world.
This poster is not only a beautiful piece of artwork, it is also one of the favorite motifs in Denmark and I believe this poster is on the top ten list of the most reproduced poster in the country. Being the original, this original vintage poster is a quite desired item and it is a little bit hard for me to pass it on..
Please note: I know of three versions of this poster - the respective posters are from 1955, 1959 and 1961 - all with slightly different motifs, different dates and they are all signed in print by Viggo Vangby in their respectful year. This version is from 1961 and has its own unique look but the signature from 1959 is still present.

Condition: Very good condition - very light handling signs, tears on the edges (one larger tear in the top), tiny pinholes in the corners, some dark surface stains in the left side and a light "dog ear fold" in the lower left corner - please see pictures.
