A nice recruitment poster that displays the ten regiments in the Home Guard of Denmark in the 1960s.
In the aftermath of WWII 250 freedom fighters met in Odense and founded the Home Guard as a voluntary organization based on the motto: "No more April 9!" - the date were Denmark was invaded by Nazi Germany in 1940.
After the peace in 1945 established in Denmark a number of Home Guard associations, in some places called the "Black militias" and other "Blue militias" depending on "uniform" color. The creation of these associations based on the fact that there were many resistance fighters who would not hand over their weapons from the war.
During the Cold War served Home Guard in support of the Armed Forces. The primary task was monitoring the territory of Denmark. Guarding the military and society vital installations are also part of the Home Guard work. Other tasks will include ambushes and sabotage of enemy units and installations (theoretically and only in wartime), sea rescue and various security duties.
After the Cold War, the Home Guard's role has changed now its mainly guidance and traffic control during major public events, rescuing actions and guarding pollution accidents.
Today the Home Guard faces major changes in the organization in order to provide better and more targeted action in civil society by disasters, terrorism or natural disasters.
The text on the poster: Lad os mødes i Hjemmeværnet - aktiv for fred og frihed can be translated into: "Let's meet in the Home Guard - active for peace and freedom".
Please note: The poster is mounted on a kind of cloth fabric which adds to the conservation and makes the poster nice and stretched. The poster will be shipped rolled inside a tube.
