1960s Danish Hiking Association - Original Vintage Poster

This vibrant vintage Danish poster was created for Dansk Vandrelaug (DVL), Denmark's national hiking association, to promote its Vandrekort og Lejrpas (Hiking Map and Camping Pass). Founded in 1930, DVL has long encouraged outdoor recreation, organized walking tours, and affordable camping throughout Denmark.

The poster perfectly captures the optimistic spirit of post-war leisure travel. A smiling backpacker carrying full camping gear walks alongside a hiker, symbolizing the freedom, friendship, and adventure of exploring Denmark's countryside on foot. During the 1950s and 1960s, hiking and youth hostels became increasingly popular as affordable holidays gained widespread appeal.

The artwork is a fine example of mid-century Scandinavian graphic design, with bold simplified figures, bright flat colors, and dynamic composition. Its painterly green background and stylized illustrations reflect the modern commercial art that characterized Danish posters of the period.
