Original Danish mid-century modern advertising poster produced in Denmark in the 1960s, created to promote Købmandskaffe, a coffee brand associated with “Den Frie Købmand” (The Independent Grocers of Denmark).
The poster features a striking Scandinavian modernist illustration: a deep blue coffee pot and cup set against a stylized Danish townscape of houses, farms, and factories. The composition reflects post-war Nordic design ideals — clarity, craftsmanship, everyday life, and quality products — rendered in a warm, optimistic color palette typical of the period.
The design was produced by Lumbye Reklamebureau A/S, one of Denmark’s influential advertising agencies during the mid-20th century, and printed by Hagen & Sørensen in Odense, a well-known Danish printing house. Like many commercial posters of the era, the individual artist is not credited, which was standard practice for advertising work in Scandinavia at the time.
Slogans such as “Langt de fleste drikker friskbrændt & friskmalet købmandskaffe” (“Most people drink freshly roasted & freshly ground grocer’s coffee”) reflect a time when local shops and product quality were central to everyday Danish life — just before the rise of large supermarket chains.
