It is rare that a poster becomes so famous that it is given a name. However, this poster is known as "The Tobacco Girl" and depicts a beautiful girl (probably from Latin America) carrying fresh tobacco leaves on her head while smoking a pipe.
This is possibly the most famous tobacco poster in Denmark and was made by the legendary Danish poster artist Aage Sikker Hansen (1897-1955). Sikker Hansen created some of the most iconic posters in Danish poster history. His posters where often portraits or people often using only pencil and charcoal which makes his images quite detail rich with many textures and shades. This poster was one of his last and most celebrated works.
Originally the poster was ordered as an advertisement for tobacco sold in supermarkets owned by FDB (Now "Coop") which is the association for Denmark's consumer cooperatives. The slogan in the bottom can be translated into: Tobacco - for the discerning smoker" and the FDB logo is also visible on the poster.
