This is possibly the most famous coffee poster in Denmark and the motiv of the beautiful girl has won several prices and awards for its simple yet powerful expression. The girl is often refereed to as "the circle coffee girl" (the brand is called "circle coffee") and despite a lot of speculation her identity of the girl is still a mystery.
The poster was made by the legendary Danish poster artist Aage Sikker Hansen (1897-1955) who also created some of the most iconic posters in Danish poster history. His posters where often portraits or people often using only pencil and charcoal which makes his images quite detail rich with many textures and shades. This poster was one of his last and most celebrated works.
Originally the poster was ordered as an advertisement for coffee sold in supermarkets owned by FDB (Now "Coop") which is the association for Denmark's consumer cooperatives. The coffee was originally known as "FDB Coffee" but in 1938 the name was changed to "Cirklekaffe" (Circle Coffee) which is still produced and sold today.
There is a few different versions of this motif from 1955. A vertical version with the girl holding a cup of coffee and (this one) a inverted version with no coffee on and a different text and then the later versions.
This poster could be great for as café décor, in the kitchen or a place for relaxation. This poster express a very cosy atmosphere with its slightly naive lines and brown background.
