One of the greatest works by Wiinblad displaying a beautiful young geisha with her cute peacock.

You are looking at one of Wiinblad's younger works from 1954 - a theater poster from "Det Ny Teater" (The New Theater) in Copenhagen. The poster advertises the play "The Teahouse of the August Moon" (the Danish title "Det Lille Thehus") and displays the young geisha, Lotus Blossom. She will later get the tea house which is mentioned in the title of the play.

The play was written in 1953 by John Patrick adapted from the 1951 novel by Vern Sneider. The play was later adapted for film in 1956, and the 1970 Broadway musical, Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen.

This poster is an over-sized artwork which was made in different colors - mainly green, red, black and a golden reflect which makes this Wiinblad pieces on of his greatest early works. The particular version comes with no text.

The poster is made as a serigraph (silk screen print) which means the colors looks very vibrant and the quality of the print is very high. It is a highly refined process that takes much longer than typical offset print. However, when the serigraph is finish you can touch the colors and textures on poster almost as if it was a painting.

This rare beauty of a poster is one of Wiinblad's first artworks. The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.

The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.

Globally, Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. Many museums the world over have Wiinblad's work in their collections. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
