I was so happy when I found this incredible beauty creation made by Wiinblad!
I have had quite many Wiinblad posters in and out of my shop but I have never seen this one before. The motif is one of Wiinblad's favorite - a mystical glimpse into a kind of an fairy tale world with great inspiration from the oriental art. From each side of the image enters people which appears to come from different cultures. Maybe it is Marco Polo's meeting with the Orient? You can tell by their faces that they look on each other with quite curious eyes. Or possibly the motif reveals a Biblical scene as the print was made around Easter?
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line which this beauty is a perfect example of.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special. Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
