Every year Tivoli invites a Danish artist design the poster art for the coming season.
The art for the poster of 1981 was created by Bjørn Wiinblad (1918 - 2006) who also is well known for his ceramics and paintings. On the image you can see a colorful dressed joker/jester holding a decorated plate with a miniature sized Tivoli Park on top.
Tivoli is one of the world's most famous amusement parks. The park is the second oldest amusement park in the world and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This particular poster is rare for its size. This is a larger billboard poster which was used inside and around Tivoli and has never been for sale to the public. The white version is also rarer seen than the blue version and this is the first time I have the white version in this size.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special. Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
