I personally think that when Wiinblad created carnival posters he was at his best. The details, the colors and the atmosphere is hard to express better then by his hand.
This poster is definitely in the high league of his posters and I guess it would have taken him a lot of time to make this artwork. There is another version of the poster with text added to the poster which is why I know a little more about it. The title of the poster "Carnival in the Palm Garden" (Karneval i Palmehaven). I tried to Google the location and it was located in Copenhagen somewhere but it seems like the place closed down many years ago. But by looking at the poster we can sense what kind of party it might has been in the Palm Garden.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic "stylish" line.
The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented in many museums around the world including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
