This circus poster descents from what is known as the Golden Age of Danish circus.
The poster was made by legendary Erik Stockmarr - an artist with a capital A, and he drew only a few posters, but was very recognized on the mountain of artists in mid century.
His original posters are often sold as “circus poster classics” at various auctions. This very poster is no exception though could be in better condition which is considered in the price (please see details below).
This poster is a advertisement for the famous Circus Schumann which was a German Circus. In 1916 Circus Schumann moved to Denmark - fearing the World War I. They stayed in Denmark until their last season in 1982 when the circus closed down for good. Schumann was graded as the Danish national circus and was considered as the greatest circus in Scandinavia. However financial problems and the Danish circus"war" was closing down a lot of circus in Denmark - including Circus Schumann.
This original poster is a great addition to every room that needs a happy and lively decor but a certain must-have for collectors of vintage circus posters or anyone associated with the circus.
