A gem of a poster with quite an atmosphere!

The poster depicts the view from a deer (more about that later) who arrives the Bakken - the world's oldest amusement park near Copenhagen, Denmark.

Bakken or Dyrehavsbakken is located 15 km away from Copenhagen, in The Royal Deer Park which is one of only three forests in the world included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dyrehavsbakken ("The Deer Park Hill") dates back to 1583 were entertainers and hawkers was drawn by the citizens of Copenhagen who came there to collect clean drinking water as the water inside the city was bad. For a period of the area that the spring was located was not open to the public due to it being on royal hunting grounds. In 1669, King Frederick decided to set up an animal park in the area and his son, Christian V, extended the size of the park by 3-4 times after he became king in 1670. The park was off-limits to the general public under Christian V and this did not change until 1756, under yet another King Frederick.

Today it is a thriving amusement park filled with modern rides and amenities. Dyrehavsbakken is home to six roller coasters. The most famous is Rutschebanen (Danish for "The Roller Coaster") a wooden roller coaster open since 1932 - visible in the background of the poster. Rutschebanen has been deemed an American Coaster Enthusiasts Coaster Classic. The park is also home to dozens of other flat, or amusement, rides suited for all ages.

The artwork was made by the Danish cartoonist Des Asmussen (1913-2004). Asmussen's works includes several drawings to include the newspapers but had a predilection for portraying Copenhagen city buildings and street life with a historically accurate depiction. Asmussen is perhaps best known for his action-packed ink drawings to Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind" from 1975. Today he is recognized as one of Denmark's best and most renowned cartoonists.

This is truly a great poster with a lot of colors, details and just by looking at it good thoughts and memories will come to life.
