-----------------------------------

The poster was made to promote a Danish fundraising by Danish Red Cross to support the people of Italy after a giant flooding disaster in 1951.

The disaster was caused by heavy rainfall which forced the river Po in northern Italy to rise massively. The event left many injured and 180,000 people where homeless.

On the poster is the Danish text: "Hjælp Italia" (Help Italy). The correct word in Danish for Italy is "Italien" but the poster designer thought "Italia" probably sounded better. In the left side of the poster is the bank number (Giro 3) where you could deposit your aid to.

The poster designer is the Danish artist, Helge Refn (1908-1985), who also designed costumes and sets for a wide range of performances including at the Royal Theater, the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm, show posters and many Tivoli Gardens posters.

This is a charity poster that is a reminder of the great human efforts.

Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions.
