You are looking at one of Wiinblad's most popular artworks.
About 50 years ago, the Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad made four different posters - each poster represents a season and the full collection then make up all the in the year.
This poster is as beautiful as it is detail rich. Made using silhouettes carefully cut out on black paper one can stare at the image for hours and still discover new details. The motif seem to be inspired by a fantasy world where joyful people are having a great time. This spring image represents the awakening of life after a long winter. It seems like a courtship is being made by a young couple - in the summer version of the poster, I believe its the same couple who are having a baby (I know it might be a quick pregnancy but this is a fantasy world after all). Actually there might be two different couples getting ready for a kind of commitment and above the couples is a lady sending letters using airmail - homing pigeon. It also seems like two cats are in love.
The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.
Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
