More info

Many of us know Bjørn Wiinblad for his arts, ceramics and sculptures but he was also into costume designing.

The sketch was made for a comedy called "Lysistrata" (Army Disbander) written by the Greek play writer Aristophane also known as "The Father of Comedy".

The costume sketch for a character called Lysistrata which is the same name as the play where she appears. I have little idea where the play was set up but a qualified guess could be somewhere in Denmark - Wiinblad's home country.

The craft of Wiinblad is often colorful, lush and full of humor. He was inspired by the sumptuous oriental style far from the Nordic stylish line. This artwork is differently true to his special line.

The views on his works are to this day very divided, but interest in his finer things are unrelenting - especially abroad (particularly the U.S., Japan, Germany and Norway). Bjørn Wiinblad's contemporaries were not exactly inclined to acknowledge his way to work, so his position as an artist has been a bit special.

Globally, Bjørn Wiinblad is one of the very best selling Danish artists. He is represented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Note: this poster has an odd size - not the standard size of its time. Also, there the little points or crosses are still visible along the edges suggesting that the poster was not resized to its intended shape.

Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions.
