I am very proud to have this art deco advertisement in my store.
The poster was made to advertise a swimming pool in Odense (Denmark). When Odense Swimming Pool opened in 1938 it was the only swimming pool in Odense. Later when more pools where added in the city the swimming pool changed name to Klosterbakken Swimming Pool.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the global health trend also came to Denmark and many bathing facilities and swimming pools where constructed to maintain public sanitation at some level. Odense Swimming Pool was built in functionalism style of the 1930s and the main building is seen in the background on the poster. The building still exists today though more buildings and facilities has been added around the original construction.
The poster displays a woman wearing a yellow swimming suit with a yellow swimming cap. She stands alone, ready to jump from a springboard made of the letters forming the name of the swimming pool. Below the letters is the water.
I tried to find a similar version of this poster online but I could only find reproductions. Please let me know if you find a similar one - original like this one of cause.
