Such a cool industrial truck poster!
Here is a historical original 1948 vintage poster advertising The White Motor Company which was an American automobile, truck, bus and agricultural tractor manufacturer. The company was founded by a guy called Thomas White in 1900 and the company was brought by Volvo in 1980 and by 1995 the name "White" was no longer to be found on new models.
As seen on the poster this poster tells us the story of the glorious American steel industry and its importance and growth. In the 1940s Steel was a very important material especially during WWII where the industry grew rapidly and during the post-war period with American industry intact the country would also export steel to help build up Europe. Steel production along with a number of other production industries in the western world would experience its heydays after the war. By 1967, when steel production was at it highest, steel accounted for 4.9% of manufacturing output in the U.S (today is about 0.8%).
With that in mind, it is no wonder that White Motor Company wanted to be associated with steel. Indeed, this poster is from a time with tales of proud industries, modernism and progress.
