An awe-inspiring and jolly mid-century poster featuring clowns on a motorbike (with a tuba attached) and a cute cat with a hat!
The poster advertises Circus Louis (or Cirkus Louis) which was a Danish circus that existed from 1937 to 1967. At this point it is quite hard to find any further data on the circus. However, the clowns who was with the circus this particular season when the poster was made, is the legendary clowns "Bario and Barios". The Barios are Italian clowns who lived much of their life in France and consisted of four different actors/clowns but I am not sure which ones is present on this very poster. Circus connoisseurs will know very likely know the clowns.
The poster was made by legendary Erik Stockmarr - an artist with a capital A, and he drew only a few posters, but was very recognized on the mountain of artists in mid century. Stockmarr's original posters are often sold as “circus poster classics” at various auctions. This very poster is no exception though could be in better condition which is considered in the price (please see details below).
This original poster is a great addition to every room that needs a happy and lively decor but a certain must-have for collectors of vintage circus posters or anyone associated with the circus.
