A spectacular art Deco football poster from 1932 advertising a match between the two Spanish teams Valencia C.F. and F.C. Barcelona.
The poster displays two players jumping in the air - fighting for the ball. Note their shirts reveals a bit more than contemporary shirts. Also note the brown leather ball - that ball would be very heavy on rainy days.
As seen on the poster the match was played in Primera División January the 12th at Mestalla Stadium (located in Valencia). I tried to look up the result but it seems that the match was moved to January 17 for unknown reasons and the result was 0-0.
The season of 1932 was Barcelona's 4th year in the Primera División and they ended the season as number three. Valencia was just promoted to Primera División the season before and as far as I understand this was their first year in the best Spanish league. Valencia ended as number seven. Madrid C.F. (now Real Madrid) became champions of "La Liga" which consisted of ten teams in 1932.
This is a great historical poster which is an absolutely must-have for anyone who appreciates both football and vintage posters.
