This is a original vintage poster from 1983 made by the famous Razzia Raf Productions in Paris who is behind many well-know poster prints.
The text on the poster saying "Houte Couture" is French and can be translated into "high fashion". The clothing phenomenon started in France in the nineteenth century around the Napoleonic period. At this time telling customers (the "Couturiers") what designs they wanted. In 1858 in Paris the Englishman Charles Frederick Worth began producing a collection based on their own ideas and show them to potential customers. This idea was new and was a great success. Then fellow designers began to dictate fashion, and Charles Frederick Worth is considered today as the father of modern haute couture.
Within Haute Couture , the goal is to get the clothes to look as pretty as possible. Along Stitching is not intended, and therefore want to hide the seams . By using the sewing machine , it's hard to hide the seams , and therefore many stitching done by hand. All seams sought performed on sewing machine, if it is possible to prevent the stitching visible.
Today "Haute Couture" is a protected trademark and in order to be registered with the label of "Haute Couture", you must meet several requirements ex. being a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, producing two collections a year, viewing 50 new designs in each collection, have at least 20 technicians employed full-time in a studio or workshop. In 1946 , there were around 100 Haute Couture houses. Today, there are ten left among them you will find brands such as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.
