"Sit down - sit Danish" states this poster as a queen is sitting on her throne as she is gazed at by well-dressed gentleman.
This nice poster was made to promote The Danish Furniture Quality Control (Dansk Møbelfabrikant Forening). A few different posters was made and they all come with a picture that one has to decode in order to guess which famous Danish chair is portrayed.
This particular poster displays "The Queen Chair" ('Dronningestolen' in Danish) by Mogens Hansen. I had a hard time to figure this puzzle as I was not familiar with the chair.
Today The Danish Furniture Quality Control is known as "FURN-TECH" - the organization is the oldest control organization for furniture and its members are leading Danish producers of quality furniture. The purpose of the organization is insure certain requirements of the materials, production methods combined with two annual control visits to member companies.
The poster artist, Ib Antoni (1929-1973), is a quite famous artist and received many prizes during his 20 year career. He created more than 300 posters in his career and among them is several Tivoli Garden, Visit Denmark and Wonderful Copenhagen posters. Smiling people was among Antoni's favorite subjects and his line was always happy and romantic which makes this poster quite true to his cheerful style.
Overall this is a great vintage poster featuring good vibrations along a creative artwork by one of Denmark's most beloved artists.
Please note: This is one of the last posters Antoni ever made before his death in 1973 (so the poster must be from before 1973).
Thanks a lot for watching and please let me know if you have any questions.
