Here is a quite rare advertisement for the infamous Kevi office chair designed by Jørgen Rasmussen in the mid-1960s.
The chair was a small revolution at the time with its wheels that could move about in all directions (known as the "Kevi Wheel"). Another great feature of the chair was the focus on ergonomic design (which was quite a new thing 40 years ago) - as seen on the poster the chair is adjustable and curves along with a sitting persons back.
Today the chair is regarded as one of the Danish design icons and can be found in various design museums including MoMa in New York.
The poster artist Per Arnoldi has the following comment on the poster:
"The Kevi office chair is a classic and so well known that I could color it so wildly I could without and it would not disappear. The only thing that disappeared deliberately was (the colors) yellow on yellow and the company logo in the middle at the top of the poster, because we would like to be so discreet as possible. The chair is manufactured in the US under license from Herman Miller, which has a version of the poster made with its own logo in red so it would not disappear. Discretion is a European problem".
Per Arnoldi is a self-taught, world-renowned modernist artist. He is particularly known for his posters and considered one of Denmark's most important poster artists. He is known for a tight and easily recognizable form and color language. As a painter, Per Arnoldi always uses primary colors (red/yellow/blue) on a bed of white - just like on this very poster.
Arnoldi is represented in a number of well known museums in the world including Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum of Modern Art in Toyama and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
This poster is a great contribution to the modernist legacy that (without a doubt) will spice up any wall it is hanged on. The poster is extremely hard to find so if you find yourself in the need of something quite unique - you came to the right place.
The poster is made as a silkscreen/serigraph print which means the colors looks very vibrant and the quality of the print is very high. It is a highly refined proces that takes much longer than typical offset print. However, when the serigraph is finished you can feel the textures on poster almost as if it was a painting.
