This beauty of a poster was made as an advertisement for the amusement park, Dyrehavsbakken (or simply "Bakken"), in Denmark.
The poster commemorates the 100 years anniversary of "Teltholderforeningen" which is business owners, or "tent owners" as they are still called today, who created the "Dyrehavsbakken Tent Owners’ Association of 1885". The association improved garbage collection, restroom facilities, water supply, publicity, and helped bring electricity to the park. The association is still around today, and all businesses operating in the park are required to join.
The most famous figure representing the oldest amusement park in the world is Pierrot (or Pjerrot) who is an ancient figures who dates back 4000 years in Anatolia, Turkey. Pierrot was "introduced" in Dyrehavsbakken around 1800 and with his boat-like hat and scarlet grin he remains one of the parks’ chief attractions.
Even though Dyrehavsbakken is located 15 km away from Copenhagen (Denmark), this poster worked as an advertisement for the sights to be discovered in the greater area of Copenhagen.
Dyrehavsbakken ("The Deer Park Hill") dates back to 1583 were entertainers and hawkers was drawn by the citizens of Copenhagen who came there to collect clean drinking water as the water inside the city was bad.
For a period of the area that the spring was located was not open to the public due to it being on royal hunting grounds. In 1669, King Frederick decided to set up an animal park in the area and his son, Christian V, extended the size of the park by 3-4 times after he became king in 1670. The park was off-limits to the general public under Christian V and this did not change until 1756, under yet another King Frederick.
Today it is a thriving amusement park filled with modern rides and amenities. Dyrehavsbakken is home to six roller coasters, the most famous of which is Rutschebanen (Danish for "The Roller Coaster"), a wooden roller coaster open since 1932. Rutschebanen has been deemed an American Coaster Enthusiasts Coaster Classic. The park is also home to dozens of other flat, or amusement, rides suited for all ages.
This is truly a great poster with a lot of atmosphere and just by looking at it good thoughts and memories will come to life.
